Handling Voter Registration Problems So That Your Vote Counts
Look up your voter registration here.
-
You may still be registered, even if you do not show up in the state’s database. Your county elections office is the final word on your voter registration. Call them if you’re not on the state database website!
-
To register BEFORE October 5, 2026:
-
Go to your county elections office and register in person OR
-
Get an application from your local library OR
-
Find a Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR) or voter registration drive in your area OR Print out and mail in an application form here. Make sure it is postmarked October 5 or earlier!
-
If you’ve moved since you registered:
-
If you moved to a new county, you’ll have to update your address here before the voter registration deadline on October 5, 2026.
-
If you moved within the same county, you can update your address now at the link above, when you go to vote, or anywhere in between.
If you’re not on the rolls when you show up to vote:
-
Call your county elections office or 866-OUR-VOTE to figure it out together.
-
VOTE EARLY. Early voting is Monday, Oct. 19 to Friday, Oct. 30, 2026. The earlier you vote, the more time you have to fix problems.
If you vote too late to fix the problem:
You may have to cast a provisional ballot.
-
A provisional ballot keeps a record of your vote while county checks your eligibility.
-
Do not vote a provisional ballot if you’re ineligible to register to vote.
-
The poll workers will have you sign an affidavit envelope swearing that you are eligible, that you have not already voted, and that you live where you say you live.
-
Poll workers will give you a form that tells you what the next steps are.
-
You will only have to “cure” your ballot at the elections office if you voted provisionally because of an issue with your voter ID.
-
-
You will vote the provisional ballot according to polling place instructions.
-
Within 30 days, you will get a notice in the mail telling you if your vote counted.
If they won’t let you vote provisionally:
Call 866-OUR-VOTE from the parking lot before leaving the polling place.
-
Unless you are ineligible to register to vote, they should let you vote a provisional ballot.
