Who is eligible to cast a Limited Ballot?

A registered voter who has moved from the county where they are registered, to a new county of residence in Texas, but will not be registered to vote in their new county at least 30 days BEFORE Election Day, may be eligible to vote a “limited ballot.” Limited ballots may be voted in the voter’s new county of residence under the following conditions:

• The person seeking to vote a limited ballot would be eligible to vote in their former county of residence on election day if they still resided there;

• The person seeking to vote a limited ballot is registered to vote in their former county of residence at the time the person:

  • offers to vote in their new county of residence OR

  • applies for registration in their new county; AND

• The person’s voter registration is not effective in their new county of residence on or before Election Day.

Time for Casting a Limited Ballot

Voters may vote using this limited ballot procedure only during the early voting period

• In-Person: A person may vote a limited ballot in-person only at the main early voting polling place in their new county of residence.

• By Mail: A person may vote a limited ballot by mail only if the voter is eligible to vote by mail, and they must submit their Application for a Ballot By Mail to the early voting clerk for the county in which they now reside.

What’s on a Limited Ballot?

A person casting a limited ballot may vote on all statewide races and any district offices that are in common between both their former and their new county of residence.
