High School Voter Registration in Texas

To register to vote in Texas, you MUST be 

• a US Citizen,

• at least 17 years and 10 months old, 

  • BUT you have to be at least 18 years old to vote

• a resident of Texas

 

Your School’s Legal Requirements:

• Every high school in Texas MUST provide their students with AT LEAST two opportunities per school year to register to vote

  • Eligible students should be given the chance to register to vote at the end of each semester, BUT

  • There is no limit on how many times your school can provide voter registration applications to eligible students

• Your school’s principal has to appoint a “High School Deputy Registrar” who will be in charge of your school’s voter registration program

  • The Deputy Registrar has the following responsibilities:

    • they will oversee distributing voter registration applications,

    • assist students in completing their voter registration applications, AND 

    • turn all completed voter registration applications in to your county’s Elections Office 

YOU MUST BE REGISTERED AT LEAST 30 DAYS BEFORE ELECTION DAY IN ORDER TO VOTE IN THAT ELECTION
